Biography
Hello, my name is Jose Martinez-Garcia (he/his). I am an Arizona native. I currently live in Phoenix.
I completed my Bachelors of Art degree in elementary education from Arizona State University over a decade ago. This allowed me to begin my teaching career in an intercity school near downtown Phoenix. I began as a 6th grade teacher for three years and taught 5th grade for two years. While in the classroom, I had the opportunity to teach in a flipped classroom environment for four years. In a flipped classroom, students learn academic instruction at home by watching a teacher-made video lesson on their iPads, while at school they do their homework assignments.
After teaching in the classroom, I had the unique opportunity to take over my school's technology literacy position. I have completely revamped my school's technology class from a boring "typing class" to a full on coding, video productions, yearbook publication, and technology literacy class experience. I oversee our highly popular video announcements, which caused our school district to put dollars to revamp my classroom into a future news studio.
Outside of my professional life, I have a strong passion for technology. You will always see me with the latest gadget or with the latest information about a new technology device. I love photography and videography and you will catch me taking pictures on top of North Mountain in Phoenix or taking drone video clips at a beach in Greece.
Recently, I completed my Masters of Education degree in Learning Design and Technologies at Arizona State University. This program combines my knowledge about technology and teaching so that I can contribute to future career opportunities related to instructional design, corporate training, or technology-based education.
